About The Position

SUMMARY: This position is an entry-level paralegal trainee position in the Seattle Trusts & Estates Department with a career path to becoming a full-time paralegal. While a trainee, the candidate will gain the necessary experience by providing administrative support to the department’s paralegals and performing billable tasks as directed.

(With day-to-day oversight and quality control by paralegals)

  • Provide administrative support to the T&E paralegals.

  • Actively participate in in-house training/mentoring with department members and offsite educational opportunities as available; maintain written record of ongoing training provided.
  • Assist paralegals in all aspects of estate administration as needed.
  • Organize and maintain department files as directed.
  • Draft correspondence and pleadings.
  • Assist in obtaining and organizing estate asset information.
  • Assist in compiling information for estate, income, and gift tax returns.
  • Assist in preparation of accounting and distribution schedules.
  • Assist in preparing transfer documents, including deeds, assignments and bills of sale.
  • Assist in research and preparation of valuation reports and inventories as directed.
  • Accurately and completely record billable time spent and tasks performed in accordance with firm policy and client-imposed billing protocols; enter and release time promptly in compliance with the firm’s announced deadlines.
  • Accurately and promptly submit records of hours worked in compliance with the firm’s established deadlines.

Work Experience & Abilities Required

  • High degree of attention to detail.
  • Ability to accurately type 50+ wpm.
  • Excellent mathematical, grammar, and proofreading skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products is required.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, service focused environment and to handle stressful situations in a calm, composed manner.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to complete projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow client confidentiality guidelines.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Legal experience preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
