Experienced Probate and Trust Administration Paralegal - Seattle, WA (On-Site)

The Probate, Trust  and Guardianship/Conservatorship practice group at Reed Longyear is seeking a full-time Paralegal. Any applicant must have knowledge in administering probates, trusts, and guardianship/conservatorships in King County and be comfortable referencing local rules and procedures for other counties.
Reed Longyear is a well-established and long-standing general practice firm in downtown Seattle with strong ties to the local community. We are close to transit centers, ferries, and the King County courthouse. We have a collaborative atmosphere, good benefits, and friendly co-workers. Essential Skills and Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of Paralegal experience (with at least one year of experience in probate, trust and guardianship/conservatorship administration)
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree required
  • Paralegal Certification preferred
  • Drafting probate filings including petitions, oaths, notices, orders, declarations, and statutory probate notices
  • Drafting pleadings and reports to obtain approval of court-supervised trust matters
  • Drafting pleadings and reports in guardianship/conservatorship matters
  • Scheduling and meeting deadlines for probate procedures
  • Creating trust, estate and conservatorship inventories and accountings and working with clients to obtain necessary documentation to complete an inventory
  • Overall case management, including calendaring and meeting deadlines, communicating with clients and other parties, and ability to self-direct regarding routine and anticipated matters
  • Strong written communication skills in drafting routine to complex letters and emails with clients and other parties
  • Familiarity with Practice Master or other practice management software (or the ability to quickly learn new software)
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • High proficiency with use of calendaring software to ensure court filing and other deadlines are met
  • Proficiency with Excel, or other accounting software
Useful but not Required Legal Skills:
  • Familiarity with tax principles, tax returns and deadlines pertaining to trusts and estates
  • Familiarity with the estate planning process including drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney
