WSPA is an active member of the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA), a professional organization of state and local paralegal associations. NFPA has member associations representing over 15,000 North American paralegals. Members benefit from a strong communications network among member associations and the opportunity to be heard at the national level.
WSPA has one representative to NFPA with authority to vote at the national level on our behalf. We also generally have a Secondary Representative who participates in the national events, but without authority to vote unless the Primary Representative is unable to do so. Other WSPA members often become involved in NFPA activities for special purposes. See PACE, ProBono Services, Job Bank. Any WSPA member interested in national affairs is encouraged to participate in the National Affairs Committee.
NFPA generally has two conventions each year, one in the Fall and one in the Spring. WSPA sends at least two representatives to each convention, because that's where policy is made, by the delegates from all member associations. A Leadership Conference is usually held each Fall, where persons interested in becoming more involved in the management of WSPA or NFPA can obtain training and exchange ideas with others in attendance. For more information about NFPA events, see the NFPA online calendar.
